18 October 2021, CUFE Business School held the 7thSession of the 2021 CUFE Business School Distinct Academic Forum.Professor Li Jiatao, Lee Quo Wei Professor of Business, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, was invited to give the speech. Faculty members, postgraduate and undergraduate students from CUFE Business School were attended. Professor Lin Song, Dean of CUFE Business School, hosted the forum.
Professor LiJiatao received his PhD degree from University of Texas at Dallas.Professor Li had served as Senior Associate Dean of HKUST Business School from 2013 to 2017. Professor Li is an outstanding expert in international business strategy fields. Currently, he serves as deputy editor of Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS). He also served as deputy editor of Strategic Management Journal (SMJ) from 2009 to 2016. Professor Li’s research articles have been published in top international journals such as Academy of Management Journal (AMJ), Strategic Management Journal (SMJ), Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS), Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal (SEJ), and Organization Science, etc.
The topic ofProfessor Li’s speech was based on his research paper “Global Business and the Digital Economy: Findings from Two Studies of Global Digital Platforms”. Based on the cases of two classic digital platforms, JD.com and Amazon.com, the article explores the performance difference before cause and entry mode strategic selection between the platform side (Platform owner) and the third-party service provider (Third-party complementors), respectively. The research had provided a new perspective for the dynamic research of competition and cooperation of the global digital platform.
In the communication session, Professor Li answered questions and discussed issues with faculty and students. The interaction had greatly promoted academic exchange.
