Professor Li is currently a professor of business at the Hong Kong University of science and Technology (HKUST) School of business, Professor of management, director of business strategy and innovation research center of HKUST Business School, senior scholar of IAS, and Academy of international He is an academician of business, AIB, vice president of AIB (2016-2019), and chairman of AIB's 2018 annual meeting.

Professor Li's research areas include organizational learning, strategic alliances, corporate governance, innovation and entrepreneurship. His research results are often published in the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of management review, organization science, strategic management journal, Journal of international business studies, and Journal of management, and many of them have won the best paper award. He is also a member of the editorial board of the Academy of Management Journal, strategic management journal, Journal of management, global strategy journal, Journal of international business policy and long range planning.
